Fauna/flora surveying at Gatineau Park (2015) - Part 3 & Sawmill Creek Wetland

On April 28th, I helped out at Gatineau Park for the last time this year.

Some species of Andrena.

Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens)
Despite the warm temperature, I didn't see much wildlife except for this Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens), unlike a year ago when I saw a snake.

In the afternoon, I took the long way home by walking around Sawmill Creek Wetland from the bus station.

Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura).

All of the groundhogs (Marmota monax) have emerged from their hibernation, and you can see them in many places (especially along roadside) munching on vegetation.

Unknown crustacean exoskeleton found on the trail. Perhaps a crayfish from the wetland gotten eaten?

Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum)
From far away, I could hear a strange bird singing a whole bunch of different songs.  I realized it was a Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum) once I got closer.

What a nice-looking bird.

I tried filming its song with my E-M1.

Canada Geese nesting on cattails. I hope this is not an aggressive pair because their nest is quite close to the trail.

The reason I took this photo was because I saw a bat flying towards these trees across the road. My camera couldn't obtain focus and when it did, this was the photo I got. Hopefully there is a bat somewhere in this photo.

Unknown Megachilidae
In the morning at Gatineau Park, I watched three bees trying to mate with each other on the biking trail.  Unfortunately a biker came up behind me and ran over two of the bees (it all happened too fast for me to do anything about it).  I brought these two bees home, pinned them, and took a couple photos of them.

Rest in peace.
