Rideau Canal, birds, and full moon

The school semester is finally over, but work (i.e., preparing for qualifying exam) still continues no matter what.  I took some photos the past two weekends just walking along the canal and hiking in the Arboretum hoping to see some wildlife.

Parliament Hill
Preparation for Winterlude has begun even though the ice is not thick enough yet.

Rideau Canal
Kind of peaceful.

At the end of the tunnel
Tunnel leading to campus.  I always like looking towards the end of the tunnel, so I hope to take more photos here in the future.

I went to Carleton University and the Arboretum this Saturday looking for wildlife.

I saw this gull standing on a rock in the middle of the river and thought it looked kind of different because of the darker back - a Greater Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) perhaps?  By the time I took out my camera, it was already in flight, so this was the only shot I got.

Common Goldeneyes (Bucephala clangula)

Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis)

A lonely bench

The Arboretum was surprisingly quiet and lacked wildlife, so I only took some photos of the place covered in snow.

Sunday moon
It was full moon on Saturday but cloudy, so I photographed the moon the day after.
